Greetings. I am Panagiotis, born and raised in Donoussa and I warmly welcome you to our home, Restía.
For those who may wonder, Restía—also known as ‘apothalassia’—is the silent wave. When the wind falls silent, the sea does not instantly settle. Beneath its surface, a quiet motion lingers, unseen yet ever present. That is Restía.
As you look toward the village from the harbor, Restía stands proudly above, watching over it all. That’s how the world describes our place—a peaceful retreat just a six-minute walk uphill. A short journey that leads you to what your soul has been longing for: the endless Aegean.
Along the way, cobbled paths and stone steps weave through hidden corners adorned with bougainvillea. Gardens, nurtured with seeds from our grandfathers, burst with basil, mint, ampelopsis, and royal jasmine, their scents blending with the rhythm of the waves. The rhythm of Restía.
So, welcome back, and welcome home!
Restía is home to 11 rooms, spread across two floors. Most are designed for two guests, but because there’s always room for good company, we’ve also created larger spaces that can comfortably accommodate up to three or four people.
Our architecture, both in structure and aesthetics, embraces the essence of Cycladic simplicity—a perfect blend of minimalism, elegance, and harmony with the surroundings.
Right next to Restía, you’ll find a charming Aegean terrace, filled with enticing aromas and carefully selected flavors.
Its name is Simadoura. In this cozy little restaurant, you’ll have the chance to savor a delightful fusion of local and Cretan cuisine—always with a true Mediterranean soul.
At the heart of it all is Ms. Chrysa, who lovingly prepares homemade dishes, always stirring with care. She’ll be there to greet you with warmth, making sure you feel right at home from the very first moment.
Donoussa, Denoussa, Stenoza, Spinosa, Viridem. So many names have surfaced over the centuries for this small island in the heart of the Aegean. A tiny dot on the map, yet with a history that is both deep and mysterious, whispering its stories to the waves.
