OUR BEACHES & WHAT TO DO

EXPERIENCE

FIVE RESTORED OLD TRAILS

EXPLORE ON FOOT

It is said that to truly learn about a place, one must walk it. So it seems that Donoussa wants you to become a walker and an explorer. You are welcome, no matter how you come, but you will find she is eager to reveal her world to you through a fully marked network of 5 trails of varying difficulty and some other beautiful off-road routes. Hat, water, and off you go.

TIME FOR A CHALLENGE

TRAIL RUNNING

If again walking isn’t enough for you and you want to raise the bar, guess what. A Trail Running Race. Sometime in mid-October, our Cultural & Environmental Association “Poseidon” organizes a mountain running race, which has now become an institution for the island. Its 20-kilometer route takes you through mountain peaks, passing through all the traditional villages of the island, while treating you with incredible views of the imposing and ever-present beauty of the Aegean Sea.

NISIOTIKA PANIGYRIA

CELEBRATIONS

It’s okay if you don’t want to walk or run, but you’ll have a dance, won’t you? You’ll have many opportunities during the summer. The big celebrations of Panagia on August 15th and of the Holy Cross on September 14th, as well as our favorite, Agia Sofia’s in Mersini on September 17th, await you. The only necessary requirements are your good mood and your brightest smile. Dancing skills are unnecessary.

A MUST BEFORE YOU LEAVE

BOAT TRIP

In the meantime, make sure not to miss a ride on the local boat ‘Donoussa Magissa’, for a fabulous boat trip around the island, weather permitting, but also towards the islands of Makares. Captain Elias with his uplifting spirit and his music will make sure you won’t want it to end.

JUST DO IT

JUST DO NOTHING

And if in the end you prefer to do nothing, do just that. Forget about clocks and reminders, choose the beach you like, grab a coffee, borrow a book from the island’s diverse lending library, and disconnect. Make sure to enjoy it, because why not.

OUR BEACHES

DIVE RIGHT FROM THE PORT

STAVROS

The first beach you encounter, before you even get off the boat. Within five minutes on foot, no matter where you are within Stavros, it stands and waits for you to dive into the water without a second thought. That crystal clear water.

THE OLD SHIPWRECK

KEDROS

What’s a 20-minute walk to one of the landmark beaches on the island? A historic beach. Descending the beautiful stone path, that leads to the beach, you can see the remains of the destroyer warship “Orion,” sunk during World War II. Mask, flippers, and a dive for exploration. Above the beach, the homonymous shop offers plenty of shade, coffee, food, and drinks.

THE ANCIENT BEACH

VATHI LIMENARI

Pebbles, tranquility, and azure waters. It stands beneath the half-collapsed windmill of Mesaria, 35 minutes after Kedros, and you can meet it by walking one of our most beautiful marked trails, number 4. In the area, after excavations, the ruins of a settlement from the Geometric Period are hosted.

OUR OWN BLUE LAGOON

LIVADI

For years it competes endlessly with Kedros, for the award of the most beautiful beach, and the verdict is still pending. It generously stretches under Mersini and can be approached either via marked trail 3 or by sea. Just remember to have water and food with you.

A PRIVATE SANDY PARADISE

FYKIO

By the side of Livadi. A beautiful sandy beach that, although it can fit a handful of people, it loves to drive away concerns and anxieties, selflessly offering peace and much-needed deep breaths.

THE NORTH SCENERY

KALOTARITISSA BEACHES

Sapounochoma, Vlycho, Tripiti. As if all of the above were not enough, the triptych of Kalotaritissa comes to give the final blow. Three small be aches that appear exactly in the order listed above. The first two are so close to each other that swimming from one to the other, seems like child’s play. They are both located within the village, while the last one, Trypiti, is less than 10 minutes away.
And something for the end. It is indeed a blessing to have so many beautiful beaches on such a small island, and it would be a shame for anyone to leave the island before experiencing them all. They will be expecting you, however, to meet again, always with the mutual promise that before you leave, you will protect them from personal waste, and they will make sure to repay you the favor, as only they know how.
